Turf Paradise

My work team had a holiday lunch the week before Christmas.  It was scheduled at a restaurant in the far northwest of Phoenix in an area of the city I hadn't been to in a very long time.  On my drive there, I passed Turf Paradise, a horse racing venue that I hadn't seen or heard anything about in a very long time.  In fact, I thought it had closed.

Apparently, it had paused business for a while but according to what I read, it is going to have races again this coming year.   My memory of this place was that it was way out on the edge of town with a lot of land surrounding it.  Today it is surrounded by businesses, shopping centers and homes.  I had to drive down a long driveway to get to the actual track to take this photo.  I guess I need to do some more exploring in this part of town.

Turf paradise is a funny name but I'm not a horse racing fan personally.

Off track betting and sportsbooks are bringing a lot of old venues new life. I haven't been to a horse race in a long time.

It's fun to explore parts of town where you haven't visited for a while and see changes, some for the better, some not so much.

That is a great entrance that they have, Sharon.

"Turf Paradise" is a peculiar name. I thought it might be business selling astroturf!

Your London photos are amazing. The Heard Museum is pretty cool, too. The light show was good. I have not been in Phoenix since 2015 (I think) when I got my heart fixed at Banner.

Nope - it was 2013. Good thing I blogged it.

The previous owner had announced that there would be no more racing and the track and property would be sold to a developer. But then a new owner was found who reinstated racing. At least for the time being. I have some good (and not so good) memories from Turf Paradise.

The space looks quite forlorn.

An unusual name.
