Doves are pretty common across the country so they probably don't get the attention they deserve. This fellow was very obliging to sit perfectly still while I zoomed in for a close up.
This one was equally cooperative, sitting on a fence and waiting for me to finish snapping photos. This one is a mourning dove but it is known by several other names depending on what part of the country you live in.
The white-winged dove is another variety that is seen around the area. They have the distinctive white edges on the their wings and the pretty blue around their eyes. If you are like me, you might be hearing Stevie Nicks singing in your head when I mentioned the white-winged dove.

I haven't thought of that Stevie Nicks song for ages! She used to have blue eye shadow like that too, didn't she? Or maybe that was Agnetha from ABBA.
They always seem to be such gentle birds.
The eyes are amazing. I should sit and be patient, and collect close ups of the eyes of birds.
