Random Tucson Photos
I'm posting a few random shots from my weekend in Tucson today. I'll go into more detail on some of the places I visited on my travel site sometime in the future. First we have this lovely "Tucson" mural that I found near the downtown. The sign in front of the building said it was a gallery but, I never found it open while I was there.
My absolute favorite shot of the entire weekend was this one of a very curious young owl who was watching me through a shop window at the Tahono Chul Gardens. I had never visited this place before and I must admit, I'll have to go back when the weather is cooler. It was simply too hot to spend much time out doors with the sun bearing down. When I stopped at the gift shop, the lady working there asked if I'd seen this owl hanging out just outside the window. I got out my camera and the little guy became very curious, watching my every move.
I spent some time at the Tucson Museum of Art in downtown Tucson. It's another place I had not visited before and I was very impressed. The museum occupies several buildings that have been beautifully integrated with a new contemporary gallery that I loved.
I spent some time exploring the historic neighborhoods of Tucson looking for interesting historic buildings to photograph. That's something I do every time I go but, this time I went a little further afield.
Another first was a visit to the Saint Augustine Cathedral in downtown Tucson. This historic church was built in 1776 when Tucson was a part of the Royal Presidio territory of Spain.
I also visited the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, the studio and former home of the late artist Ted DeGrazia. What a thoroughly enchanting place this turned out to be. In addition to his wonderful works of art, many I had never seen before, the style of the gallery was breathtaking.
I'll post more information about each of these places on my travel site sometime in the future. Each one held some surprises for me.

The owl stole the show, I love that Owl
You really took in the the owl. I laughed out loud when I saw the owl! Great photo! Tucson is a wonderful place!
I love each and every one of these photos on your post today! Makes me want to visit Tucson again; it's been years since! Perhaps we should forego Santa Fe and spend some wintertime in Tucson instead. I Love the mural. Spectacular church and the museums and galleries must be a visual feast!!
What an incredible series of shots Sharon, can't wait to hear about each one in more detail. So much to see in Tucson.. how hot was it that day? And of course the curious owl is just fabulous, I wish I'd taken it :)
All lovely shots but of course the owl has got to be my very favorite!
I've been through Tucson many times but have not spent much time there...your photos tell me I've missed a lot. Your photos, as usual, are breathtaking! Love that cathedral shot and the blue door and the mural (although it didn't look that attractive to me what with the skull, etc.) and the Museum of Art...and that owl - what a character!
That surely was a busy weekend documented here. The owl... too funny.
Wow, I love that owl, Sharon !
I wonder why curious owls turn their heads sideways like that.
Fabulous collection of photos and yes, the owl is the best! What a cutie!
What a nice tour you gave us! You are a busy woman, Sharon! Love the gallery and the owl of course!
They are all wonderful images but the 'owl' is absolutely outstanding. I think that one is worth some dollars :).
Wonderful shots, but that owl really wins the day! Priceless! You should keep him in mind for a year's end best of post.
The owl is my favorite too! I love the way he is tilting his head and staring right at you with those big eyes.
Great photos. Love the church.
Wonderful series! My favourite shot is the blueish door on adobe wall.
GREAT owl photo!!
The owl! Home run!
The owl picture is certainly the picture I will retain...
