When I was at the art museum two weeks ago, I stopped in the Asian galleries to look around. The small Buddhas in several display cases gave me another opportunity to practice with the 'portrait' mode on my iPhone. I like the way it blurred the background and isolated the Buddha in this shot.
I could also just blacken the background completely. I think I like the colorful background more but the black background serves a purpose too.
I tried it with this Buddha of Compassion but it appears that the camera also blurred out one of the Buddha's arms leaving a bit of something just floating in the air.
This photograph of the gates of a Tibetan residence served as the background for photo above. The photographer of the gates is David Leiwei Li.
I don't browse the Asian gallery nearly enough. There are always interesting things to see there.
I'm certainly enjoying experimenting with the iPhone's camera.

I enjoy this very much!
They look all very well with or without background.
I like both versions of the Buddha so it is hard to pick a favourite, Sharon.
I've never used portrait mode. Maybe I should try it. Very weird that it disembodied one of the Buddha's hands!
Both Buddhas came out great.
I like the colours in the last photo, maybe I should play around more with my phone.
I enjoy using portrait mode, too. Your photos are wonderful...keep having fun with your camera!
So much can be done with a phone.
