Arizona Road Trip: San Xavair

This is my last stop on this road trip before making my way to Phoenix.  This is Mission San Xavier del Bac, just south of Tucson.  It is nicknamed “The White Dove of the Desert”.  This beautiful church is still very active and serving the Tohono O’odham Reservation.  It is a dramatic site sitting in this desert location and those equally dramatic monsoon clouds make it stand out even more.

I am back in Phoenix from my vacation in Italy and I'll start posting regular posts on June 1st for theme day.  Thank you to all of you who followed my Arizona Road Trip while I was away.  Once I get the photos from the Italy trip downloaded and edited, I'm sure I'll find a few to show you.  I had a wonderful time visiting a beautiful and historic country.

Julie and I were certain you wold enjoy your long-overdue trip to Italy and we are anxious to hear all about it and see your photos.

It truly is an outstanding looking church. Is there a reason for the color differential of the two sides?

With our usually clear blue sky, this shot with clouds is truly a rare sight.
I look forward to seeing some of your pictures from Italy.

Italy! What fun that must have been. This is an exceptionally lovely picture of the mission. It makes me very happy to see it still serving its purpose today.

I love this church....I have several dozen pics, but none with clouds like these...it really makes the picture! And I see that this was taken a while back...the lone cactus in front is no longer there. I believe it was on the verge of death a couple of years ago. I looked for it last June when I was there and it was GONE!

The mission looks even better than the last time I was there several years ago - I think those beautiful clouds enhance the beauty of this photo. I'm looking forward to seeing pics from your Italy trip!
