When Pigs Fly

I was searching through some photos I took a few years ago on a drive through New Mexico when I spotted this one with a sort of mural painted on the side of the building.

I cropped the photo to get a better look and sure enough, there is a mural painted on this building with lots of southwestern animals prancing across the shop's exterior.  The shop is called "When Pigs Fly" a retail shop.  The photo was taken in 2015 in Truth or Consequences New Mexico. A quick internet search and I see that the place is permanently closed now.  Too bad, it has a great name and I like the whimsical mural.

The shop might be closed but it still makes a nice addition to Monday Murals.

A Touch of the Southwest

This desert southwest mural is on the side of a building used by Desert Valley Testing.  I had to look up what they tested and it appears it's mostly marijuana and also mushrooms.  They ensure the "safety and efficiency" of those substances.  That's a service I didn't know was needed.

The desert mural wraps around the side of the building. Life is full of all kinds of discoveries.

Floating Buddha & Chrome Duck

There are two sides to this mural.  The first panel has this space-age Buddha who appears to be talking to a dog who might be the one in charge here.

The other panel features a chrome duck in the shape of an automobile hood ornament.  I have no idea what it all means so I won't even attempt to explain.  Whatever the meaning, it is nicely painted.  The mural is signed "Torvasm" which turns out to be an artist named Lucretia Torva.

Notorious RBG

I recently found this mural honing Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsberg.  What a well-deserving subject for a mural honor.  What a brilliant mind in such a small and fragile body.  It was a very sad day when I learned of her passing; an even sadder day for the country.

Love This Town

I recently found this mural on the side of The Banner Church in Scottsdale and the images in it looked very familiar.  To the left you see the church that I featured yesterday and the day before.  Next to it is the Blacksmith's shop that I featured last week.  I see Camelback Mountain in the background and floating above the mountain is the bucking bronco rider that is a Scottsdale symbol. You will see that bronco rider on the bench that was in Saturdays's post.  The horses in the foreground either represent the pony express which is reenacted every year, or the fact that Scottsdale has a history of Arabian horse ranches.  The cowboy to the right is a mainstay of old town Scottsdale.  I featured him in this post.   This is a real tribute to the city of Scottsdale.

The artist for this mural is Michael Swearngin a well know "cowboy" artist in Scottsdale.
