Valentine's Day

I haven't seen anything Valentine related recently so when the day popped up on the calendar, I wondered what to post.  So I searched through the archives and found three photos that will represent this day perfectly.  First up is a bouquet of roses that I photographed way back in 2011.  I remember that I liked that bouquet because it combined so many colors.

Roses go well with Valentine's Day but so do sweets.  A nice box of chocolates is always welcome but every now and then I indulge in this wonderful chocolate cake topped with a cherry compote and a big dollop of whipped cream.  I had this Valentine treat in 2023.

Of course champagne is another indulgent treat that appears on this day.  Well, actually it appears a lot more often than that at my house.  I do enjoy a nice glass of bubbly champagne.  I treated myself to this glass just last October.

The nice thing about all three of these treats is that you can enjoy them anytime.  No special day is required.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Here's to a New Year!

Here is a toast to 2016!  I'm hoping the new year will bring health and happiness to all my readers.  I'm toasting today with an Arizona wine at my favorite place for walking, The Desert Botanical Garden.  Happy New Year!

Wine Tasting

While I was exploring the shops at the Phoenician Resort last Friday, I found this attractive little wine shop.  There was no one around when I stepped into the shop so I snapped a photo.  No, I didn't take a bottle with me.

Fine Wines

This photo involves a story.  Way back in 1999 or 2000 while I was still working in Chicago, my best friend David (who was working in Minneapolis at the time) and I flew to San Francisco for a weekend trip.  We stayed with great friends who were living there at the time.  On one of the days we took a trip to Napa where I bought this very expensive bottle of wine.  It was somewhere around $95.00 at the time.  Well, I've held on to that bottle all these years.  Yesterday, David and I attended a show at the Phoenix Art Museum and after the show we went to my house where I decided it was time to uncork this bottle which had now increased to a value of $150.00.  (If only my 401K had done so well.)  I'm here to tell you that it was one supurb bottle of wine.  As I right this, I'm now wondering where I can conjure up something this delicious again, without going broke.
