Regeneration

Last June when I went to the Desert Botanical Garden one last time before the summer heat set in, I found this patch all covered with plastic and this sign to explain what was going on.  It's called "Soloarizing" and it's a natural way to kill weeds.  And quite frankly, I had noticed that the wildflower beds were getting a bit weedy.

See what I mean.

When I went back to the garden in September, the ground had been uncovered and sure enough there were no weeds at all.

When I went this last weekend, it had been planted once again and I must say it's looking quite nice.  They have placed the different wildflowers in groups that I assume will grow and spread out to cover the area.

I like the way it's looking!

Thanks for the tip.

That looks great! And what a good idea, although I suspect it works better in Arizona than it would in England. :)

Great idea, Great results with no chemicals used. We need to do more of this.

That's a new technique to me.

What a great idea! I suspect we don't have enough warmth in the PNW for this to work. Perhaps a test patch? (We've got over an acre...)

This bed is really coming along nicely!

Fabulous garden. I absolutely love it. We need more people doing such projects, the earth needs our help to regenerate and heal.
