Big Lens

When I went to the garden last Sunday morning, I wasn't the only one there taking pictures.  This guy had some serious equipment set up and was working away on some subject.  I was never quite sure where he was pointing that giant lens.

Looks like he may be zooming in on Australia ;-)

I wonder?! You could always ask, but then you run the risk of getting a photography lecture. I've found that to be the case, anyway. :)

Remember: size doesn't ALWAYS matter. In EVERYTHING.

There are so many comments that are going through my head but none that seem appropriate for this venue. I just wonder how many people that see him have 'lens envy'.

He takes it very seriously!

Maybe you'll run across photographer Randy Johnson one of these days.

OMG. I don't know Nikon lenses since I belong to the other party but I can't imagine why you would need a lens that big for an object 3 or 4 feet away. How could it focus?

Serious is right and I think Bob's comment is practical. I wonder what a lens like that is able to do?

Can you imagine the photos.

Probably a teeny, tiny bug!

Oh... my... goodness... I'd like to try that just once!

Whoa! Bob Crowe said what was in my mind. I was thinking, "It is not the camera, it is the photographer." And, Catalyst said the other thing that I was thinking, since I learned today that Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson now spends most of his time doing photography. Have you ever seen him out and about in Phoenix. He would be hard to miss, something like 6'10" with long hair and grizzled.

He probably has to keep an insurance policy on it!
