I was at the Tovrea Castle most of the day yesterday working on the docent training program when someone in our group spotted this Cooper's Hawk sitting on top of the power pole and surveying the property. He was patient enough to let me snap a few shots before he flew off toward the castle. I like the effect of that thin cloud streaking the sky behind him.

Such a regal air.
I like the whole effect of the bird taking advantage of a man-made object. He does look majestic!
They are so beautiful! Is the Castle open again now? I have never been in my 25 years in the Valley.
Oh great shot Sharon, you have to be so quick with birds. He looks very majestic sitting atop the power line!
This is a great shot of a hawk. It must be looking for a nice lunch of fat pigeon.
Nice capture Sharon!
Love it that you always have your camera ready. Great photo.
Glad he posed for you so gallantly. Well done.
Good for you. I cannot get a good hawk picture! This is such a proud bird, sitting up there like it rules the roost (which it probably does!)...and not a bit fazed by that even in the sky behind it!
It's so exciting to be able to capture birds because they could be here and gone in a second! great job!
Regal was the first thing that came into my head too!
Man at work... or maybe Woman.
So proud!
Hmmm, how fitting. Hawks and castles go so well together!
Quite a take!
Do you know when the Tovrea Castle will be opened to visitors? I tried to find out a couple of days ago but could not find any detail? In March 2012?
Beautiful. I'm a hazard driving down the road sometimes, because I see these sitting on the poles and always want to stop.
Great spotting, Sharon.
