At the AltaMira gallery in Scottsdale I saw some great art pieces from an artist new to me. His name is Rocky Hawkins.
This is one of his paintings and the one I liked the best. Hawkins style is abstract expressionism and I can see the abstract nature and I can see the expressionism. This one is called Inner Landscape. I love it.
Here is another one of his paintings. This one is very Rothko-like in its style. This one is called Transformation No. 10.
I love learning about artists whose work is new to me.
The gallery also had this painting by the late Native American artist John Nieto. Nieto has a huge following for his bold paintings. This one was priced at $60,000, a price that speaks to his popularity among collectors. I'm glad I got to see it and photograph it.

That is a lot of money for a painting. I like the abstract work more.
I love discovering new to me artists as well. It's great getting to see inside your galleries all the way over on the other side of the world.
A great day out.
I really like that 1st one too, Sharon.
Thank you for sharing your fun day out and new artist discovery. I really like the "Rothko" painting.
Abstract art is not my cup of tea, but I like the first painting.
Native art is very special. Love it.
The first painting is my favourite.
Thank you for showing these arts that I would not have seen otherwise
It's interesting how Southwestern-themed art is such a "thing." Does any other region of the country have such specific styles of art? What would Illinois art look like? Or New York art? I suppose Florida has some regional art.
