Scorpion Gulch

I forgot about these photos I took about three weeks ago when I took a drive to the top of South Mountain.  South Mountain Park is located at the very south border of Phoenix and most people recognize it as the place where all the TV and radio towers are located.  I suppose the altitude gives them a bit of a transmission boost.  Right at the entrance to the park, is this place called Scorpion Gulch, the ruins of an old trading post dating back to 1936.
It's been placed on the Phoenix Historic Property Register.  I'm not sure if there are any plans for it but it's interesting to just walk around the old buildings.

  4. I would have picked it as being older than it actually is

  5. I'm guessing that's "dry wall" construction, no cement.

    Whatever, it's a beautiful result.

  7. All the way back to 1936? :)

That name evokes many memories of old Western movies! But the last time I was down that way I played golf at what I think was South Mountain Golf Course. I don't remember much except that it was summer and incredibly hot!
