Back to the Grind

It's Monday.  Time to go back to work.  I'm fortunate that I don't have to use the freeways through the city in order to get to and from work.  One day a week ago, I attended an afternoon event and made the mistake of getting on the freeway to head home.  This was the scene as we headed west toward Phoenix with the late afternoon sunset lighting the sky.

  2. It looks colourful, but it is boring to drive in a jam. At least you had a beautiful sky to look at.

  3. That is one thing I don't miss about the city!

  4. there are more cars on this one section of road than there are people in our small town, i think.

  5. Look at the bright side. At least the freeway traffic was going so slowly that you could safely take this photo.

By the way, i could have told you never to get on the I-10 heading west into central Phoenix during the evening rush hour. I get on the freeway at 7th or 3rd street every day heading east, and traffic is almost always backed up out of the Deck Park tunnel.

  7. I think freeways are the same in cities everywhere Sharon, but this makes a great image with the fabulous sky and the glowing lights.

  11. I agree with you on the freeways. I avoid them when I can. You captured a very interesting sky.

  15. I hate traffic and congestion. One of the reasons I head to work early because I can head home before the rush hour.

  16. Looks like a pretty grim ride with all that traffic.

  17. Yikes! Makes me glad I'm retired. I think Phoenix was a little town (more or less, relatively speaking) when we lived there.

Houston, I understand, is the same way or worse. A friend of mine lives in the suburb of Katy, Texas. It used to take 30 minutes to get to town. Now it takes 2 hours!

A very dramatic photo - I especially like the contrast between the red tail lights and the yellow/orangish sky!

  18. I think the correct description is "yucky." When I worked in Boston, I faced this every day, both directions. But, after moving to Hartford, traffic jams are mostly a distant memory. I did commute on numbered highways most of the time, but an advantage of a smaller city (and going in the opposite direction of most commuters) was that I ran into negligible traffic. Now I am retired and don't see this at all!

  19. I guess that is one good thing about being semi-unemployed! I used to have to drive them all the time. Ugh.
