Bola Ties


These bronze bola ties were created years ago as part of a public art project that was installed around the Phoenix Convention Center.  When the convention center underwent major improvements a few years ago, they were moved to a new location near a downtown light rail stop near Symphony Hall.  There are 60 bronzes altogether and they were created by the late artist Michael Maglich.  Each tie is adorned with  a different object related to the southwest.  You might have to click on the photo to get a better view.

Okay folks, I've been duly chastised.  I won't shoot any more one handed photos while driving.  :-)

    I love the fact that this was recycled. I've never seen it so I'm hoping to find it on my next visit.

    I like this addition to public art and what could be better than bolo ties in Phoenix, such an iconic southwestern item. I still have bolo ties and wish they would come back in fashion.

    I wasn't sure what a bolo tie was until I clicked closer Red, I'm glad they reused this, to often things get stored away and forgotten never to see the light of day again!

    I have lived in Arizona for 29 years. I have never owned or worn a bolo tie. Come to think of it, I have never owned or wore cowboy boots, either.

    Seems like I remember way back when the bola tie was made the official tie in Az. Never did like them very well.

    Now, a bolo tie is one thing I have NEVER worn, and I hope to keep it that way! (At least don't get caught shooting pix while driving . . . )

    I'd like to see these. I have friends in Santa Fe who wear bola ties, and I love their individuality. My staid husband loves ties, but would never wear these. They would look out-of-place in St. Paul, but I wish he'd wear one at least once while we're in SF!
