These bronze bola ties were created years ago as part of a public art project that was installed around the Phoenix Convention Center. When the convention center underwent major improvements a few years ago, they were moved to a new location near a downtown light rail stop near Symphony Hall. There are 60 bronzes altogether and they were created by the late artist Michael Maglich. Each tie is adorned with a different object related to the southwest. I love the fact that this was recycled. I've never seen it so I'm hoping to find it on my next visit.
I like this addition to public art and what could be better than bolo ties in Phoenix, such an iconic southwestern item. I still have bolo ties and wish they would come back in fashion.
I wasn't sure what a bolo tie was until I clicked closer Red, I'm glad they reused this, to often things get stored away and forgotten never to see the light of day again!
I have lived in Arizona for 29 years. I have never owned or worn a bolo tie. Come to think of it, I have never owned or wore cowboy boots, either.

So today I learnt about a new concept...the bola tie! Love the geometry in this shot.
Seems like I remember way back when the bola tie was made the official tie in Az. Never did like them very well.
Love ties... even LOVE bolos. Especially in my Richard Petty disguise. hahaha
Now, a bolo tie is one thing I have NEVER worn, and I hope to keep it that way! (At least don't get caught shooting pix while driving . . . )

I'd like to see these. I have friends in Santa Fe who wear bola ties, and I love their individuality. My staid husband loves ties, but would never wear these. They would look out-of-place in St. Paul, but I wish he'd wear one at least once while we're in SF!
I really do need to get downtown and walk around!
