Beach House
Since I took you to California yesterday for theme day, I thought one more day on the coast would not hurt. (After all, we Phoenicians like to escape the searing summer heat on the California coast at least once a year.) Here is one of the many beach cottages that have been preserved by the Crystal Cove Alliance. This is probably the most famous of the cottages because it was used in the 1988 Bette Midler film “Beaches.”
How fun to see the beach cottage from that great but very sad movie.
ReplyDeleteLove that blue color!
ReplyDeleteI just hear the ocean and smell the salt. From the fences it looks like they've had a few breezes of late.
ReplyDeleteI love the color and disrepair of the fences.
ReplyDeleteI remember that Julie and I had the opportunity to take a tour by the California State Park officials just a week or two after the State succeeded in evicting the residents of these cottages, after an 18 year legal conflict.
ReplyDeleteIt was an experience with mixed emotions. There were toys left on the floor. The cottages were in disrepair. The community was uprooted, but the area was opened up to welcome all visitors.
These cottages are a favorite of plein air painters.
Nice. I remember this...
ReplyDeletethis is a great location and great image. James Dean also used to live in this house. Crystal Cove is fabulous place to go
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that! What a great cottage. Won't find anything like that in Florida.
ReplyDeleteBut you're right! When we lived in Phoenix, we would drive to San Diego just to play in the sand and surf and get away from the extreme heat of Arizona!
I would envy you on this California beach today. Can ya go wrong goofing on a beach? I think not.
ReplyDeleteCan we stay a little longer? Please please please!
ReplyDeleteFamous or not, I'd like to stay there for awhile. Love the colours in your photo,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place that would be to spend a few days!
ReplyDeleteGreat place! Looks like yesterday's mailboxes would go well there.
ReplyDeleteHow did you know that I spent today tearing down an old picket fence?
ReplyDeleteIt is a warm and friendly cabin in a pretty special setting.
Wow great house and I love that movie!
ReplyDeleteIt looks perfectly old, used, and loved.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would snag Tracy with this one. It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI would like to feel the sun at this place. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic setting! Love this shot.
ReplyDeleteI saw the "Beaches" cottage yesterday (June 15, 2011)and there were workmen all over the structure rebuilding it from the ground up. When restored, the house will be a museum and gallery.
