Savanna

This large area at the Phoenix Zoo is called the African Savanna and it contains Giraffes, Gazelles, Eland Watusi Cattle, and a few rather frisky vultures. It’s a large open space for the animals to roam in an area that looks very much like their natural habitat.

  2. This is how I like to see animals in captivity. If there were some acacias around we could say this shot was taken on a true safari :-)

  3. It's been YEARS since I've been to the Phoenix Zoo. This looks like a great and humane enclosure.

  4. This is indeed a wonderful way to keep animals in captivity. The area for the desert big horn sheep is even better. They have an entire butte to climb around at the Phoenix Zoo.

  5. I see an emu in there too. I like that so many different animals can live in the same area together as they do in the wild.

  6. Wonderful photo! The animals of the African Savanna are my favorite, so much that I named my oldest daughter Savanna.

  9. I love this part of the zoo. I used to work for the Arizona Animal Welfare League and for lunch I would take my lunch and sit at the white tomb in Papago park. From there I could watch the giraffes walking around.
