More Circles

If you read yesterday’s post, you will realize that while trying to come up with a good representation for theme day, I went a little manic, seeing circles everywhere. I even saw them looking down at the sidewalks and streets and I started snapping photos in all sorts of places. You can just imagine the curious looks I got when photographing manhole covers in various locations around the city. It’s odd that no one bothered to ask what I was doing. They just lowered their heads, quickened their pace, and hurried past.

Unimaginative folks! I've always wanted to photograph manhole covers but couldn't find any interesting ones, such as yours.

Should these be called "personholes" or "workerholes" rather than "manholes?"

The manhole covers was a great idea. I particularly like the stylized Phoenix bird on the City of Phoenix manhole cover. There are some manholes in neighboring Scottsdale that show a western horse.

Older and European manhole covers seem to have greater artistic design than the more functional modern ones. Perhaps that is a reflection that manholes are more noticable to pedestrians, and in modern America there are fewer pedestrians and more drivers. There is less reason to decorateg manhole covers if people are zooming past driving over them in cars.

That's a fine collection of manhole covers. Ours are all the same. They make a great collage.

Ha! I too have taken a few shots of manhole covers. GI like the designs on them to make them more interesting.

Great collage. There's a sign next to the Bass Pro Shop in Tempe that says "buried manhole cover". Not sure why you'd want to bury one, but I do love the pictures of the unburied ones.

Quite a variety of manhole covers there, making a nice collage. You're like me - I will take pictures of ANYthing!

Hi Sharon, this is my first visit to you blog (in return to your visit just a few minutes ago). I have only scrolled down the first page and this is my favourite so far. It really appeals to me because you make something arty out of the very ordinary. Great colours, texture and combination.
