Big Bug Invasion

Big (and I do mean big) bugs have invaded the Desert Botanical Garden.  Just look at the size of this praying mantis.  The assortment of 11 huge insects are the creation of artist David Rogers who constructs them out of fallen wood, cut saplings, twigs, twine and bark.  The insects weigh anywhere from 300 to 1200 pounds (136K to 544K).  It's a whimsical exhibition with fun for all ages.

Fabulous Sharon and so great for the Botanical Gardens. I love that he's made them by using up recycled wood too, environmentally friendly is always good.

The lighting on this one is really nice. I would have guessed that it was metal rather than wood because of the way the sun is reflected on it. Nice shot of an interesting subject.

Is there a toxic waste dump nearby? This guy looks like he has been feeding.

I like this a lot...but what happens if the termites attack?

:-)

Yes, Dr. Duke did the surgery on my leg 4 weeks ago! Great job, too.
