There used to be a beautiful fountain at the Scottsdale Civic Center Park.
It was finally decided that the entire underpass had to be rebuilt so construction started in the fall of 2018 and it continued into the spring of 2021. During that time, the park was almost divided into two pieces because of the construction and the work that needed to be done to stabilize the area. When it finally opened again, this is what replaced the fountain. A long flat space with both grass and paved area. It's certainly not as attractive as the fountain but the area has become a popular place to ride bikes through the park and picnic in the grass. It's still a popular park, it just looks different to those of us who remember the fountain.
My personal opinion... it looked much better with the fountain.
ReplyDeleteSad the fountain has gone...
ReplyDeleteJust one of those engineering lessons so hard learned--water will always, eventually, find its way.
ReplyDeleteQuite a change. Nice green space, looks like a nice place for a ride.
ReplyDeleteNot as nice as the fountain but probably safer in the long term for the overpass.
ReplyDeleteI like the green space, and it's probably better environmentally than a fountain (even one that recycles water). Then again, I suppose they need to water that grass, too. Maybe they should have planted cacti!
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad about the fountains but safety is important if the water caused problems. This still looks like a nice place to ride a bike or hangout.
ReplyDeleteMight be a smart change by the city, given droughts and related water problems.
ReplyDeleteVery different.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the fountain.
