They Have Returned
It seems sort of ironic that just a few weeks ago I mentioned Baja Fresh in a post I did during my ten year anniversary set of photos. I mentioned that the place downtown called "The Counter" used to be a Baja Fresh when I first posted a photo of it back in 2008. All of the local Baja Fresh locations closed in 2013. Well, driving down Cameback Road, what do I see? A grand opening sign for Baja Fresh. And, here's the crazy part, it's located in the exact same shop it was in before closing in 2013. I went inside and ordered a Baja Burrito and it was every bit as delicious as I remembered. I'm happy to see them back but, I'm still wondering why the five year break in business.
Surprise surprise! Searching the internet, it turns out there are more locations.
ReplyDeleteA strange story indeed, they come and go.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the opening will create an interest in its background by some inquisitive journalist. How I would love a breakfast burrito right now!
ReplyDeleteHow weird! Looks like the Arizona Republic did a story about the return, but there's no explanation for the temporary absence.

You had a treat!
ReplyDeleteA different ownership taking on the name of the franchise?
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting story but at least they are back and their customer base can enjoy more tasty Mexican food. I never heard of them but I know I would go there, I love Mexican food.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. Glad you have one back though. We still have ours here.
ReplyDeleteThe five stores that closed in 2013 were operated by a franchisee. The Phoenix store and one in Chandler may be operated by a different franchisee. Reading about the parent company's history reveals a difficult past for the chain, with many ownership changes. We still have one in Prescott Valley, though. C'mon up!
ReplyDeleteGosh talk about going the full circle Sharon! Sounds like everyone will be pleased to see it back ✨
ReplyDeletePretty cool! We have ours, too. Great for a quick bite.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that Baja Fresh operates primarily through franchisees. The Phoenix area franchise closed five locations in 2013. The chain got a new owner in 2016. Maybe they now have a new franchise in Phoenix or maybe the chain decided to open a company-owned store.
