This mourning dove was giving me a look that seemed to say "don't you dare come any closer". Then I spotted a tiny bit of activity behind him so I walked around the cactus he was sitting in and guess what.....
...Mamma mourning dove appeared to be sitting on a nest wedged down in the arms of this cactus. Can you see her eye peeking between the thorns? She's right below Mr. Mourning Dove. (You might have to enlarge to see her.)
She really is well concealed.
ReplyDeleteWow, I presume no one will dare to come too close.
ReplyDeleteIt's a full-on dare stare! An ingenious but prickly spot for their nest! Glad you spotted it!
ReplyDeleteFun post. Old Mr. MS is giving you the look for sure! At first I thought a nest in the cactus was not too smart, then I realized it was probably a good place to keep our certain predators! Kinda like a gated community!
ReplyDeleteThat is a seriously well-fortified nest!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you get a better guarded nest than that!
ReplyDeleteYour picture gives a good view of that pretty blue eye shadow they wear.
ReplyDeleteTook me a moment, but there she is.
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart bird. The cacti acts as a protector for the little one.
ReplyDeleteWonderful "nature" photos already.
ReplyDeleteI see her! Beautiful photos Sharon.
ReplyDeleteVery sharp nest. (heh-heh) But how do they handle those thorns, I wonder.
ReplyDeleteYou have to wonder how they don't get spiked on the thorns Sharon.. especially the new babies.. super shots here!
