Today is Memorial Day in the United States, the day we honor our men and women who have died in active military service. There will be parades and services throughout the state. The plaza in front of the Arizona State Capitol has a number of memorials for different wars or military actions throughout the years.
Last year I showed you the Viet Nam Memorial. This year I have the Desert Storm memorial.
I hope all my US readers are enjoying this Memorial Day holiday!
Unusually colorful for a military memorial! Your UK readers are also enjoying a holiday today -- it's a bank holiday here.
ReplyDeleteThis memorial is standout. The world is a dangerous place.
ReplyDeleteA very colorful memorial, not usual for memorials...
ReplyDeleteA memorial complementary to the day. Nice post, Sharon. Enjoy the day and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat one really tells a story!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is different from most memorials, but that was a different war.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments today, Sharon. You tweaked my interest with your comment about the zip line. Did you try the one down in Costa Rica with your friends? I hate heights. I don't like not being in control. Those two things alone mean I'll never try a zip line! :) But some folks seem to love them. To each his/her own.
ReplyDeleteMe again, too. Wow, you are courageous! I wondered about that because I've seen photos of that zip line. I'm glad you came to your senses. I won't have to worry about you zipping over trees and stuff ever again! :)
ReplyDeleteThe two memorials (Vietnam and this one) couldn't be more different. Appropriate because of the geography. The Vietnam Memorial is designed in a more familiar form.
ReplyDeleteGosh this is surprising Sharon, I think this is the first colourful memorial as opposed to the usual bronze! I like it very much! I'm a little late :) but happy Memorial day for yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long the colors will stay true in the hot Phoenix summer sun.
