I took a long walk at the zoo yesterday. I wanted to see the new home for the tigers and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. The new facility has a viewing building that is completely surrounded by glass making picture taking almost impossible. There was another viewing spot away from that shelter but, it was surrounded by a high, chain-link fence, also bad for photo taking. So, I continued on my walk and found other things to photograph like this very cooperative Great Egret.
This Black Crowned Night Heron was also a perfect model sitting very still in the reeds.
And, I spotted this Blue Heron just outside the zoo hiding in the reeds around the lagoon. So, the birds won out on this picture taking expedition.
The eyes of these birds show up clear and so sharp in your photos. Must have been a restful walk, after you left the tiger area with such frustrating photoblocks.
ReplyDeleteYou got some superb photos. These are all birds with which Floridians are very familiar...nicely done.
ReplyDeleteA curious set of beaks... Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the birds cooperated with you, Sharon!
ReplyDeletePerfect shots of the birds. They're in such sharp focus. Must have been a nice day at the Zoo!
ReplyDeleteThese excellent shots more than make up for the lack of tigers.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots Sharon! Your title made me sing birds, birds, birds to the boys, boys, boys tune. I hope I get that out of my head quickly!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're very distinctive.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I'm disappointed, since birds are one of my favorite subjects! These are some beautiful shots Sharon.
ReplyDeleteGreat birding pictures. I commend you and your lenses!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the new tiger exhibit. The previous one was great for photo-taking. The orang exhibit is the same way at the Phoenix Zoo. And the glass is always dirty and smudged with fingerprints and God only knows what else! Great bird closeups!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Sharon, especially the first one !
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I love that red eye on the night heron.
ReplyDeleteIt really is hard to get good shots through glass, especially since the glass is nearly always covered in small grubby hand prints :) love these wonderfully sharp and clear bird portraits Sharon.
ReplyDeleteFabulous capture on top!
ReplyDeleteThree stunning bird photographs. When subject A is unavailable, go on to subjects B, C and D.
