Phoenix Bird

I told you a while back that I wanted to do a series on the many versions of Phoenix Birds that appear all around the city so I'm going to pull some in over the next few months.  I found this one just this last weekend on the front of a mid-town hotel.  This style of Phoenix bird is an almost exact copy of the one that is used on all official City of Phoenix documents, business cards, etc.

See what I mean?  Here is a copy of the official bird that I found on the internet.

Above is a photo of where I found this Phoenix Bird, at the Clarendon Hotel.  The hotel is located in a very unlikely spot on a quiet street in the mid-town area of Phoenix close to where I used to live.  It was purchased a few years back by a new management company and they have turned the hotel into a very eclectic place.

  1. Interesting that many cities or regions use a bird as their official sign.

  3. I'm not sure I would have recognized the Clarendon. It's really had a facelift!

  4. Point of Information----You can find it here too. Our city came back from the Great Fire of 1866. The bird is featured on many City of Portland vehicles.

  6. Quite a symbol! And the building's quite modern.

  7. Looks like they did quite a bit of work on the hotel. The bird is almost, but not quite the same.

  8. I like the logo. Is there a copyright against others using it?

  10. It is not how I envision a phoenix but it is very sleek and modern version. Looks great on public buildings.

  12. Yes, the only difference I see is the split at the bottom of the official version.
