The big cloud
It's that time of year again, the monsoon season has begun and the afternoon skies begin to fill up with clouds, big clouds. Sunday night the cloud build-up actually turned into some wind and rain for the valley. Very little rain for central Phoenix but the east valley cities of Tempe and Mesa got a lot of rain and some damaging winds to go with it.
The television weather man said that Phoenix wouldn't see any rainfall and that the storm would pass us by heading for the outlying areas. At exactly 10:00 PM I was sitting in a perfectly quiet house, checking my email when CRASH/BANG, a very loud clap of thunder startled me out of my chair. I hadn't even seen a flash. What followed was about 10 minutes of wind and light rain. Just when I though I might fall asleep to the patter of rain on the roof, it stopped and was all done for the night.

The photo is quite beautiful with remarkable looking clouds.
ReplyDeleteSleeping, in a light summer rain, is just the right measure.
ReplyDeleteI love all the puffy white clouds we have had over the last couple of weeks. We had some short bursts of rain yesterday and very cloudy this morning.
ReplyDeleteThose are impressive clouds!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's impressive!
ReplyDeleteSo much for the weatherman (we have the same here incidentally, it was supposed to be sunny today. It was. Until 10:00 am!!!)
Very dramatic clouds!
ReplyDeleteWas it Royal Norman? Our weather people said the same thing here too, and then.
ReplyDeleteA superb composition
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame the rain didn't last longer Sharon but still I bet it had that lovely fresh smell.. gosh I love that after a long dry spell.
