Since I posted lavender/purple on Monday and Tuesday, I thought I may as well continue on that theme and post more lavender/purple subjects. Today I have a type of poppy I've never seen before. I noticed them growing in the vegetable garden at the Desert Botanical Garden.
They were at least 5 feet tall and since I didn't know what they could be, I stopped a docent and asked. She told me they are poppies. I never heard of poppy that large before but, I did some internet searching and sure enough, they do exist.
Actually, those look like bona fide opium poppies, which are very large. (As opposed to the smaller California or European red poppy.) I love the papery-looking texture of their petals.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poppies, such rich colours!
ReplyDeleteThe color and texture are unusual and outstanding!
ReplyDeleteI, too, was unfamiliar with such tall poppies.
ReplyDeleteI know the garden has a plant sale each year. Do they also sell seed? This would be one to wish for.
ReplyDeleteI love the things I find out everyday when I visit my fav blogs.. five feet tall! that's as amazing as the colour Sharon.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Phoenix many, many years ago, I had a neighbor who grew these in his backyard. I think nature loves the color purple.
ReplyDeleteNothing like the colors of nature during spring.

ReplyDeleteI have seen really big poppies, but never in this gorgeous purplish/lavender color.
ReplyDeleteI love the details in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteI love oriental poppies. They are so different to the ones we are used to see.
