This toothpick cactus had a lot of blooms on it when I saw it last weekend. It's a large cactus, probably over 15 feet tall (5m). It's real name is Stetsonia Coryne and it's native to Argentina. According to Wikipedia, it was named in honor of Frances Lynde Stetson, a New York attorney and plant lover. I couldn't find any information as to why an Argentinian cactus ended up with the name of a New York lawyer.
ReplyDeleteCatus have such beautiful flowers.
Funny, Sharon. An Argentinian cactus with a New York lawyer's name. Pretty though. We have a Stetson University in Deland, Florida. I don't think it came from Argentina, though. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bloom.
ReplyDeleteThey must have named the cactus after a lawyer during a time period when the plant was all thorns, and no flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at how exotic the cactus blooms are Sharon.. And this beauty comes with an intriguing story as well !

ReplyDeleteI wonder why it's called toothpick cactus. I would guess it has long spines. Lovely flower.
