Pictures from Phoenix and sometimes from the surrounding cities that make up the "Valley of the Sun"

My thoughts are in Yarnell Arizona
I've had a few pictures from Yarnell Arizona on my site in the past because I used to spend a lot of time there when my friend David had his cabin (pictured above) in that community . He sold it about two years ago and I've missed his beautiful stone cabin that sits among the granite boulders. After the tragedy on Sunday, my thoughts are with the families of those brave fire fighters who lost their lives and with the home owners who have lost their homes. We don't know if David's old place survived unharmed.
My neighbors also have a cabin in Yarnell and they were there on Sunday when the evacuation orders came down. They packed up their cars and headed back to the valley. When I talked to them early this morning they were pretty certain their house was in the line of fire but, they called me later in the day and told me that officials had told them their place had survived even while homes across the road from them did not. The fire is still out of control so the possibility of losing it still exists.
I want to thank all of you who left messages on my site yesterday. Worse than the loss of property is the devastating loss of life of those who fearlessly dedicated themselves to saving others.
I posted this second photo showing the walk up to David's old cabin so you could see the size of those wonderful boulders that dominate this little community. Those boulders make this place a unique and picturesque spot in Arizona.
It's an absolute tragedy what happened there. Let's hope it is all brought under control without any further loss of life and property.
ReplyDeleteI have been following the fires and that tragedy on the news. Horrible.
ReplyDeleteWe need to find a better way to prevent fires.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful setting! I hope the cabin has survived. I am so sorry about the 19 firemen who lost their lives. It's so sad.
ReplyDeleteSo devastating! My heart is so sad over what happened in my beloved Arizona this past weekend.
ReplyDeleteI can smell smoke this morning. Not sure where it's from though. Yesterday we had some lightening strikes close by and just a little rain. Seeing smoke in the sky is getting to be the norm around here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful cabin, I hope it survived. The loss of the firefighters is so devastating.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of you Sharon, the fires have been on the news here also. The loss of these brave men is unbearably tragic. I hope they manage to get the fire under control, the searing temperatures don't help either.
ReplyDeleteThis is all so sad. To lose precious buildings like this is bad enough but to lose so many precious human beings is horrendous! I had thought the fire was closer to Phoenix (the news reports said "northwest of Phoenix"!)
ReplyDeleteHorrible times out there. Be safe, Sharon.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cabin. I hope it survived.
ReplyDeleteIt is small solace, but people all around the world are watching the situation, hoping that the fires will be extinguished soon, and grieving the loss of lives along with the people of Arizona.
ReplyDeleteIt just breaks my heart. To think they were just here helping us out. They are our heroes.
ReplyDeleteIt is almost impossible to imagine the heartache and sense of loss that comes with these tragedies.
