Good News/Bad News

The good news is that my friends (and neighbors) who have the cabin in Yarnell found out that their cabin has survived but sadly, it and one other house are the only ones left on their street.
The bad news is that the beautiful cabin once owned by my close friend David and that I pictured yesterday did not survive.

Another friend who is an elected official got a tour of the area yesterday and sent the photo to the left.
I was going to post just this photo today but, I decided to look at the bright side.  When David owned the cabin he planted a wonderful garden with lots of tulips and iris.  The tulips above are from that garden.  The cabin might be gone but as long as those bulbs are in the ground, the garden will bloom again next spring.

There is one more bright side.  I have hundreds of photos taken at the cabin and in the town of Yarnell and wonderful memories of fabulous weekends with great friends.  You really wouldn't believe some of the delicious, gourmet meals that came out of that tiny cabin kitchen.

  1. Sad news about David's cabin, but the tulips are gorgeous and a lasting memory of it.

  3. It is a real heart-stopper. I often wonder what people do when their residence is left and others surrounding it are burned and destroyed. Hard to celebrate under those conditions. It must seem unreal to you that this tragedy has struck so close to home.

  5. That answers my lingering question of how someone got in to take the pictures of the burn area.
I was only at David's cabin once but I remember how lovely it was and all the work that he did making it so. It does tug at my heart to see this devastation. But you are right, the tulips and iris will be back next spring.

  8. I am sad for this news of loss...but the option to know renewal will come in the Spring. I am sending you prayers for your friends...let me know if there is any way to help out long distance. A lot is happening here...but I think your heart is burdened and heavy now. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

  9. What a terrible loss and it must be difficult for you as you were part of it for so many years.

    Thanks for the tulips!

Here's a link to "Shutters And Boards," a huge hit. The guy with the mike is Scotty Turner, co-author with Murphy.

  11. Very sad news Sharon, but as long as they are safe that's the main thing.. Isn't nature so incredible, the thought of the tulips coming up next year as if nothing has happened is quite poignant.
