I've posted photos of the cardon cactus before. It's the giant in the cactus world native to northwestern Mexico. The blooms of this cactus are very similar to the saguaro blooms except for those fuzzy stems.
The bloom above was located pretty high up so thank goodness for the telephoto lens. The photo to the left lets you see the whole cactus and the flower is just about in the center of the photo.
I noticed after downloading the photo that I happened to catch a fly sitting just above the bloom. That is one great telephoto lens.
This flower is beautiful. They never showed the cactus flowers in any John Wayne movies.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are impressive. Nice work with the zoom lens.
ReplyDeleteWonderful delicate details!

ReplyDeletea great lens indeed. and the photographer's not bad either.
ReplyDeleteThey call cacti cardon in Argentina as well. There is even a chain of stores in Argentina that is called Cardon and that features a cactus for their logo.
ReplyDeleteThat is a stunning flower and will be a good draw for many pollinators.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant shot Sharon, don't you love itwhen you get that little bit extra in a shot! What an exotic bloom, do they have a strong aroma?
ReplyDeleteAmazing flower! I think I've never seen it before. However, I think I might have this species at home which is about 10 years old now, so I just have to wait... maybe 120 years more to see it bloom! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat different looking blossoms in the desert.
ReplyDeleteLovely flower! You don't have to move too far to get a lot of great pics with that lens. Maybe not even out of the car!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
