Cardon Bloom

I've posted photos of the cardon cactus before.  It's the giant in the cactus world native to northwestern Mexico.  The blooms of this cactus are very similar to the saguaro blooms except for those fuzzy stems.

The bloom above was located pretty high up so thank goodness for the telephoto lens.  The photo to the left lets you see the whole cactus and the flower is just about in the center of the photo.

I noticed after downloading the photo that I happened to catch a fly sitting just above the bloom.  That is one great telephoto lens.

  1. This flower is beautiful. They never showed the cactus flowers in any John Wayne movies.

  6. They call cacti cardon in Argentina as well. There is even a chain of stores in Argentina that is called Cardon and that features a cactus for their logo.

  9. Amazing flower! I think I've never seen it before. However, I think I might have this species at home which is about 10 years old now, so I just have to wait... maybe 120 years more to see it bloom! :-)
