The statue in front of Renaissance Square in downtown Phoenix. I've featured photos of the two towers that compose Renaissance Square before but, I've never photographed the statue in front of the entrance before. The title of the piece is "Full Life Reach" and there is a short poem at the statue's base presumably written by the artist Trevor Southey. It reads:
We
of humankind
hearts quickened to compassion
hope with inward vision kindled
to risk
the searching of our souls
to dare
the unexpected
to master
barb and thorn
and hear the whisper of eternity
Trevor Southey, 1987
Amazing sculpture Sharon, and inspirational message.
ReplyDeleteAh the strange things they put in banks.
ReplyDeleteDoes someone still dress him in a Phoenix Suns uniform on game day?
ReplyDeleteI think the last time I saw this stature he was dressed in the Phoenix Suns uniform. Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteI remember when this statue was first installed. The news media asked passersby what they thought of it. A woman looked it over quite carefully and then said she thought one portion of the anatomy was disproportionately large -- the feet.
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful but am somewhat surprised that the "righteous" haven't objected and had it demolished!
ReplyDeleteLoved your comment on Ocala! Right on!
Nice one. Like Lowell I'm surprised but pleased that people haven't insisted it be dressed or removed!
ReplyDeletethis is amazing and very inspirational! Thank you, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see it's still there.
ReplyDeleteVery nice and the poem quite a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe folks who precede me today have said it all!
ReplyDeleteThe Seminary isn't art deco. It is a modern building by Richard Meier, who is still working. I think it is from about 1982. Very stark! I am not a fan.
