Wrigley Manison
The Wrigley Mansion sits atop a 100 foot (30m) knoll with spectacular views of the city and the mountains. It was built by the chewing-gum magnate, William Wrigley Jr. between 1929 and 1931 and was the smallest of many homes owned by Wrigley. At 16,000 square feet (1500m), just imagine how big those other home must be. These days, the mansion is now the Wrigley Mansion Club a restaurant, bar, and party facility. If you would like to see what the inside looks like, check out their website. There is a great video showing the inside rooms and talking about the great food served here. I've had the brunch and it truly is a feast for the eyes and the palate.
Ah, Wrigleys. Must be how it sticks to the side of the mountain like that!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it was a restaurant now. It Looks like it's big enough to be a hotel.
ReplyDeleteSmallest? You're right...what must the others be like?
ReplyDeleteThe smallest is huge! What a dramatic setting.
ReplyDeleteI heard that when Mrs. Wrigley bought a pair of shoes, she always bought 6 pairs and put one in each of her houses.
ReplyDeleteShe would never had to pack a pair of shoes, except the shoes she was wearing while traveling, which might cause her shoe collections to be out of equilibrium.
Oh, the problems with which the super-wealthy must cope.
Dave's ponderings made me smile! Mr. Wrigley's mansion is gorgeous inside and out Sharon..who knew you could make so much money from chewing gum!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty - inside too!
ReplyDeleteNice place for a holiday ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaven't had much use for the Wrigley bunch or their newspaper ... the gum wasn't too bad, though. Especially "Juicy Fruit."
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to imagine one family living in such a place. But it is magnificent. I'd guess the food is a bit pricey, yes?
Re your question: No, I'm not looking forward to the holiday in question! Too much hassle for an old man.
It really is a great place.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first came to Phoenix (in '72) it still was the Wrigley Mansion and a private home. I have a friend from California who comes to a once-a-year gathering at the Biltmore and he has been to the club.
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
ReplyDeleteI had a nice brunch there on my xxth birthday!
