The Desert Inn Motel on the west side of downtown Phoenix has seen better days; much better days. This place must have been a very nice place to stay about 40 years ago. I'm not sure how long it's been abandoned but, it looks like it has been sitting empty for quite a while.
I saw this sign when I stopped to take some photos. The sign didn't get the expected reaction from me. I continued to walk around take more photos.
One wonders exactly who is going to send you to jail when the place is so clearly deserted.
ReplyDeleteThis looks familiar...I wonder if it is where Lois Anne and I stayed here when we drove down from Minneapolis in about 1958...I've still got slides from that trip.
ReplyDeleteI bet some enterprising person could restore this to its former self. Perhaps it is no longer is a prime location, but I think it's worth saving.
ReplyDeleteYou have to wonder why it all went wrong, it will be very interesting to see what they do with the land when it's demolished. Pretty aggressive signage hey Sharon!
ReplyDeleteSad to see a place left to crumble away. I'm glad we didn't have to drive down to get you out of jail.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing it in it's hey day. When we were kids we were always in awe of this place.
ReplyDeleteSmiles to Judy's comment, but what are sisters for. :) It is very strange how a city morphs and grows. One day your house or business is in the prime area and a decade or so later, you're not.
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing what time does...It's sad to see certain things get run down like that but at least it gives us bloggers something to blog and read about !!!
ReplyDeleteI'd ignore bossy signs like this too.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that sign is for all the night guests. You want some interesting shots, go back at night. But, pack a gun.
ReplyDeleteThe sign seems to indicate they've had vandals... I wonder why they closed? Nice captures...
ReplyDeleteIt seems that motels have a hard time these days.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame how the new shops and subdivisions drive away business from one area and creates this abandonment.
ReplyDeleteinteresting photos.
ReplyDeleteIf only the lovely Palm Trees could talk...
