'maters...

When I was a kid, my dad used to tell us kids he was off  "to get a bushel basket of 'maters".   And, sure enough, he'd come home with a big basket of the most beautiful tomatoes you've ever seen.  Ah....if only these beauties would taste as wonderful as those 'maters of my youth.

  2. Dad used to grow tomatoes when I was a kid and they tasted wonderful - totally unlike tomatoes these days. I like the photo!

  3. Some years ago I had tomatoes in the garden, which were very good, other than those we buy in the supermarket.

  4. They do look beautiful but I'm a firm believer that the really tasty ones have a few flaws. At least you know they were probably grown in real dirt somewhere.

  5. There is an interesting green reflection in these tomatoes.

  6. Steffe is right. The only place I've been able to get decent tomatoes in recent years were in roadside stands in Minnesota in the middle of the summer.

    These sure look good, though!

  7. They're just screaming for some bacon and lettuce! Isn't it wonderful when something prompts a sweet memory from our past?

  8. NONE of them, even those from summer markets, do not taste as good as those of our childhood. They look so beautiful and tasty, but...

  10. They look great still with their little green bits, I have to say I can't really remember what tomatoes tasted back way when, but we do have good 'maters here in Oz.

  11. They look very uniform but I think the ones that are all different shapes are the better tasting ones.

  12. They look beautiful but you have to get home grown for a tasty one theses days!

  13. These have probably been overgassed to get that perfect color. Try some with blemishes.

  15. Sharon, I think you've got a theme going with these tomatoes and the chilis of a short time back.
