When I was a kid, my dad used to tell us kids he was off "to get a bushel basket of 'maters". And, sure enough, he'd come home with a big basket of the most beautiful tomatoes you've ever seen. Ah....if only these beauties would taste as wonderful as those 'maters of my youth.
Tomatoes these day taste like water. Nice photo.
ReplyDeleteDad used to grow tomatoes when I was a kid and they tasted wonderful - totally unlike tomatoes these days. I like the photo!
ReplyDeleteSome years ago I had tomatoes in the garden, which were very good, other than those we buy in the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteThey do look beautiful but I'm a firm believer that the really tasty ones have a few flaws. At least you know they were probably grown in real dirt somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThere is an interesting green reflection in these tomatoes.
ReplyDeletethey certainly look delicious.
ReplyDeleteSteffe is right. The only place I've been able to get decent tomatoes in recent years were in roadside stands in Minnesota in the middle of the summer.
ReplyDeleteThese sure look good, though!
They're just screaming for some bacon and lettuce! Isn't it wonderful when something prompts a sweet memory from our past?
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteNONE of them, even those from summer markets, do not taste as good as those of our childhood. They look so beautiful and tasty, but...
ReplyDeletei love tomatoes!
ReplyDeleteTomato soup for dinner it is then... thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThey look great still with their little green bits, I have to say I can't really remember what tomatoes tasted back way when, but we do have good 'maters here in Oz.
ReplyDeleteThey look very uniform but I think the ones that are all different shapes are the better tasting ones.
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful but you have to get home grown for a tasty one theses days!
ReplyDeleteThese have probably been overgassed to get that perfect color. Try some with blemishes.
ReplyDelete:) they do look perfect, so was childhood... memories as ripe as your bushel here.
ReplyDeleteSharon, I think you've got a theme going with these tomatoes and the chilis of a short time back.
ReplyDeleteI love tomatoes, wish it were summer around here to get good tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteTomatoes, Mozzarella, and Basil----YUM!
ReplyDeleteLet's make a pizza! These look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! Love the reflections.
