Ice Skating

I was surprised to find this outdoor ice skating rink right in downtown Phoenix Friday night.  With daytime temperatures hovering around 72 degrees (22C), it must be expensive to keep this rink frozen.

I went back Saturday around noon hoping to get a better shot than the one above but, no one was there skating.  So, even though this one is clearer and brighter, with no action it's kind of drab.

  1. Ice Skating is also here a popular sport and a popular recreation.
    Have a nice sunday Sharon.

  2. Skating with the temperature at 22C just doesn't sound right! Strange how different the place looks in daylight.

  3. Wonder if it will continue to be open when the temps are 115?

  4. Finally, the ponds are frozen for real in these parts now.

  5. I would never have thought there would be an outdoor ice rink! I wonder why it's so lonely in the daytime hours.

  6. You have ice skating and Julie has a boat dock in your photos today. And this is the desert?

  7. How fun! Reminds me of the one they used to have at Metro Center.

  8. You're right about the expense. We had an outdoor rink, also, for a couple of years, but it proved to be too costly so the city fathers shut it down. That was too bad as a lot of kids had a lot of fun!

  9. It might not be ice. There's another one down in Queen Creek at Schnepf's Farm that is made out of a synthetic. But, I do believe there was a real ice rink in Tempe for a number of years. Winter time only, of course.

  11. I keep meaning to get down to the Crown Center Ice rink, but since it is right by my office, I hate going that way on the weekends. On the weekdays after work, I have places to go and don't quite get a photo taken. I like the shadows and light on the night shot.
