Loaded


This prickly pear cactus is simply loaded with fruit (or tuna's as they are called).  I wonder if anyone will harvest these beauties.

    I have lived in Arizona for 29 years and never knew that prickly pear fruit is called tuna. But I don't pick, prepare or eat cactus tuna either.

    I have never seen anything like that before Sharon, how fascinating! and they are safe to eat? they look a little like chestnuts I think.

    Isn't blogging wonderful? I immediately googled the prickly pear cactus and discovered some great information. I would love to taste the products made from these plants. Most interesting was the interest in them by the medical profession. Thanks for whetting my intellectual curiosity with your lovely photo.

    I love the look of those! My grandparents had them just outside their backyard fence, when they lived in El Paso, TX. Tunas always remind me of them.

    That cactus must be liking the desert summer this year! At our previous home we had 3 large prickly pears. The mailman used to take the fruit home to his wife. To make jelly I suppose.

    A feast for the eyes as well as someone's tummy! It looks like it's dotted with hearts along the edges.
