The View from Papago Park

When you are standing up by Governor Hunt’s tomb (see yesterday’s post) this is the view looking west over Phoenix.  I was actually amazed at how that butte in front of us completely hides the city from view and, believe me, there is one big city out there.

I was also taken by how much this photo looked like a 1930’s post card.  So, I used my software and played around with it and actually got it to look exactly like a hand-colored antique post card.

  1. Your "postcard" has almost an HDR effect. I like the reflection of the palms in the water.

  2. This is remarkable that this scene is in the middle of 4 million people, spread out for at least 25 miles in every direction from the location of this photo.

  3. This is fantastic! I would say a oasis in the middle of nowhere, if you haven't mentioned Phoenix is right behind those gorgeous eroded rocks. Love this view and your 'vintage' post card is pretty cool.

  8. Great job with that software! I like the view also.

BTW, I believe that flower is a yellow coneflower, it has the head of a coneflower and the petals fold back like a coneflower.

  9. It does look like a postcard, but Phoenix is full of postcard views. Somehow I just don't get metro Phoenix. I've visited several times, never stayed very long, but it's going to run out of water one day. It's going to happen. The Colorado and Lake Powell get lower and lower. Then what?

  12. Great photo and great job on the postcard effect. You are brave getting out in this heat. I'm already feeling the pain and actually it's been kinda nice so far.
