Another activity from my weekend with my friend was a trip to the Musical Instrument Museum. As we stepped off of the escalator on the second floor, we could hear a wonderful piano concerto wafting up to our level. We peeked over the railing and saw this very young musician skillfully playing what sounded to me like a complex piece.
In this close up you can see the blur of her hands as they raced across the keyboard. What talent in one so young. And, she wasn’t being paid to entertain. She was just another guest of the museum who sat down at the piano in the lobby that is there for anyone to play.
I am ashamed that in the year or so since it has opened, I have not yet been to the Musical Instrument Museum, even though it is only a half hour from where I live and I have an interest in classical music, as I am the longest serving member of the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Symphony.
ReplyDeleteI guess this proves that we sometimes do not get out to see things in the place where we live because we feel we can always do it. If I visited Phoenix as a tourist, I would certainly visit the Musical Instrument Museum.
I love the angle you chose to take the picture
ReplyDeleteI find piano music the most soothing and love to hear someone play unexpectedly. What a wonderful piece to capture in a photo.
ReplyDeleteBravo! Encore! Wonder to hear about her talent - I just wish I could have heard it myself!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like she has an appreciative audience, too.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? And anyone can play? We got a baby grand not too long ago, and I love to play but I go mostly by ear and my own chording...so my playing wouldn't sound as wonderful as I'm sure this child prodigy's playing sounded!
ReplyDeleteJust an overwhelming Center! So much to look at and to listen to. One of a kind. A place to visit again and again and so much fun for kids.
ReplyDeleteI've got to quit talking about going there and GO there.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I really like the bottom shot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great surprise, to hear the impromptu concert from this young girl. Love the picture of her with the movement of her talented hands.
ReplyDeleteImpressive - good timing for you that you got to catch her 'concert'.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to learn to play the piano. Alas, I have zilch for musical talent. What a wonderful surprise to find one so young that was so talented.
ReplyDeleteIsn't serendipity inspiring? I just love it when I stumble across something like this. I'll bet it was even more affecting to hear this impromptu performance than it would have been if there were a paid pianist there.
ReplyDeleteNice photos, nice tale.
I love the photos and piano music.
