Phillip C. Curtis
One of my favorite galleries at the Phoenix Art Museum is the Phillip C Curtis Gallery. Curtis was the founding director of the Phoenix Arts Center which eventually became the Phoenix Art Museum. He was an artist inspired by the surrealist style and was sometimes called a “magical realist” or “the Magritte of the old west.” This painting is called “The Gift Bearers” and it was represented at the Arts & Flowers show by the arrangement next to the painting created by Nanette Holt.
Great interpretation by Ms. Holt.
ReplyDeleteHow clever.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Are those men on stilts? And why. I love how artists make you think!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this photo. The plants duplicate the height of the people in the painting and the bright wall is a terrific backdrop!
ReplyDeletewhat a very cool paint,a rela masterpiece
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the museum picked the paintings for the florists to emulate, or whether they let the florists walk though the museum and pick the paintings after thinking, "I can do that one."
ReplyDeleteI think I like this one the best so far. Love the painting, love the arrangement.
ReplyDeleteI remember being fascinated by his paintings the first time I saw them on a school field trip. Since then I always made sure to visit this portion of the museum.
ReplyDeleteI love this painting. very surreal.
ReplyDeleteLove this painting and the floral arrangement reflects the painting very nicely.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the painting straight on...but then this lends to its magic. What are the gifts they're bearing? Wrapped presents? I love the height against the chair. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteSome great art! Looks like a wonderful gallery! A perfect outing for a "culture vulture!"
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite! Love the flowers, the painting, and that wall!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat, creative show.
ReplyDeleteTHat would be a fun exhibit to visit.
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic inspiration! What a great show this must be.
ReplyDeleteI'm truly enjoying your excursion through floral shows and art museums...this painting is quite unique - perhaps we'll see more of Mr. Curtis before you're through?
