Over the Wall

Yesterday, Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot went over the wall of a 16 story building……for a good cause.  He, along with a few others repelled down the side of the One Lexington high-rise to raise money for the Special Olympics.

I was on the ground taking the photo above and his chief of staff was on the roof taking the photo to the left.  Both of us agreed that it something neither of us could do!

  2. Wow. This is frightening. While it makes sense to wear a hard hat, I shudder to think that the hard hat would do little good until Tom gets much closer to the ground.

I have repelled in a canyon in Costa Rica, and have done bungee plunges of about 300 feet a couple of times, but this view from above looks scary.

  3. Oh I don't think so! Brave man, and for a good cause too. My hat is off to him.

  4. Yikes! I couldn't even look over the edge, much less try what Tom is doing! Nerves of steel....or just a little crazy.....which ever it is, I'm impressed. Way to go, Tom!

I get nervous just looking at the photos (let alone being on the roof). Good shot

  7. It gives me chills. Years ago I was at Outward Bound and one of the challenges was rappelling. I remember standing at the top of a cliff, facing inward and thinking, Sure, I'm voluntarily going to step backward off a cliff, no way! But I did it and it was exhilarating, but never again.

  9. Eeeeeek, I couldn't do that!
Both photos are stunning! The one taken from the top shows amazing shadows and reflections below, and the one taken from the ground is jaw-dropping - me scared!
