The Butterflies are back

The butterflies are back at the Desert Botanical Garden. This is called a Malachite. It was a bit chilly and rainy the day I went so the butterflies were quiet and hiding from view. Butterflies don't like when the temperature dips below 60 degrees (16 c).

  1. I have never seen one like this one before this morning. It is beautiful. I wonder what it begins its life on. What plant?

  2. I must have been a butterfly in a former life. I, too, love the temps to climb above 60. So what am I doing in New England?

  3. What a gorgeous creature and fantastic photo, Sharon. I've always wanted to visit the Butterfly Sanctuaries in Mexico, but I can content myself with this photo. Superb!

  4. Very pretty. Great shot because with its colors it could so easily have been camouflaged in these surroundings.

  8. This is a lovely photo and butterfly. I can see why it's named a Malachite.

  9. You are to be commended for going out to get utterfly photos on a cold day in Phoenix when the temperature dips below 60. Even when it is in the 60's, Julie would say "Brrrrrrrrr."

  10. I have never seen one of those! I suppose it was named after the malachite stone. It is truly beautiful!

  11. There is a Butterfly Garden in South Florida which we visited several times, and I know there is one in Gainesville just north of us, which we have not visited.

Such gardens are special places for these lovely creatures. And I have to say this is a superb photograph. Kudos to you!
