Friendly Quail

When I was at the Desert Botanical Garden last Sunday, I encountered lots and lots of quail scurrying around.  In fact, the one to the left walked right up to me.  When I snapped that quick photo, she was literally six inches from my foot.

This chubby fellow found a spot of sunshine to warm up those feathers.  They were all very friendly, following me along the trail and periodically running toward me.  I had a great time visiting with them.

  8. I love quail! So much personality. It's interesting how they group together, and sometimes post a "sentry" to keep lookout and warn the other birds, with their "chi-caa-go" calls to one another.

  9. It's interesting that they are unafraid and run towards you. I wonder if people feed them? Is that allowed?

    1. You know, I wondered the same thing. No, we are not supposed to feed the wildlife but I'm sure some people do.
