I believe these blooms are called Gomphrena Fireworks and I can see how they got the "fireworks" name. They do look a lot like an exploding sky rocket. In fact, I think I saw something similar in the fireworks show I saw on the 4th.
These were growing at the Desert Botanical Garden when I was there back in June.
I have a new post on Sharon's Sojourns today. I made a short stop in a town in the far northeastern corner of Arizona.
That is an apropriate name for the flower.
