This last Monday was quite wild and crazy around Phoenix and I missed most of it. My friend Julie was working from her home in Paradise Valley and she sent me these photos via text message as they were happening.
First up were these really wild cloud formations. They certainly make a very dramatic photograph.
After the big clouds, the dark clouds rolled in and it started to rain.
And then suddenly, the rain turned into hail and the ice started piling up around the cactus in Julie's yard.
Look at the size of those ice pellets. They are pretty big and as you can see they were pounding on the plants and stripping off the leaves.
Between my office and home, all I ran into was rain; heavy rain at times. Also some lightening and big crashes of thunder. But since Julie's house is up higher on the side of Camelback Mountain, she got ice. Quite a lot of ice as you can see.
It was crazy weather. The heavy rain and hail only lasted about 30 to 40 minutes. After that it drizzled on and off for a few hours. By morning, the sun was back and we warmed up to a nice 68 degrees by midday yesterday.

The weather is frightening sometimes, it gets worse and worse all over the world...
Hail is always scary for me since several years ago I had a car severely damaged by it - broken windows and dents all over. Love those clouds though.
Wow! What an event! I am only hoping nobody was hurt. Such beautiful clouds!
We are seeing so many extremes in the wrong seasons.
You wouldn't want to be outside when that ice was coming down - at least not without a hard hat!
40 minutes is quite a long time when it's bucketing down with hail! Oh how I wish it would bucket down here Sharon, would be lovely! I read the article you sent me the link to, honestly I don't think I've heard anyone say anything negative after visiting Perth 💙
Wow, what a scary event with the hail. I love those clouds, they seem to be standing up straight. We had some hail last night and today, it was crazy here watching it come down.
Crazy! Hail can be frightening, but at least in this case the pellets were small. Still, you wouldn't want to be out in it. LOVE the first cloud photo -- beautiful!
That hail looks scary! I hope Julie didn't have any damage at her house.
Wow!
Weather can take a turn fast. A couple of hours ago it was clear here. Now it's snowing heavily enough that it's causing white outs.
Oh, those clouds! They're beautiful. And that's a lot of hail. Desert weather can certainly be dramatic.
The intensity of nature is something I always am in awe of. Great photos.
