Sweet Tooth

Do you have a sweet tooth?  Or, do you just like to browse the old fashioned candy you liked when you were a kid?  I found this old fashioned candy store in downtown Tempe.  It's called Old Town Candy & Toys and I spent quite a bit of time in there looking at things I hadn't seen in many, many years.  Things like Necco wafers, circus peanuts and Bit-O-Honey.  My grandfather used to take my sisters and me to a corner store to pick out some penny and nickel candy.  What fun that was!  What was your favorite candy as a kid?

  1. That looks like a paradise for candy lovers. I have never been so fond of sweets, I like salty liquorice, but helas I cannot eat them anymore. It is bad for high blood pressures:(

  2. All that candy has just got the attention of my sweet tooth. When I was kid I used to chew a lot of Double Bubble Gum.

  3. Oh, my! I would love to browse this shop. Hard candies are delectable treats. Cannot recall my favorite, perhaps because I wasn't fussy and like them all. This is a colorful and tempting shop!

  4. There was a little market down the street from my grandmother's house called the Sunny Market -- we called it simply the "corner store." My brother and I used to go there to buy candy a couple of times a week. I loved SweeTarts.

  5. I didn't know there was still stores like that! I guess I loved chocolate until I became allergic to it like Dad was. But I think we mostly got hard candy at the little store that Grandpa took us to.

  6. This reminds me of a shop here called Sugar Mountain.

I still have a preference for chocolate bars.

  7. When in elementary school in Duluth, Minnesota, there was a corner candy store that we would visit coming and going. It was a favorite place and this post brought back a flood of good memories! Thank you!

  8. I can remember going to the store with a nickel and coming home with a whole bag of treats since many of them were a penny for five pieces! I do remember the black balls with the hot centers!

  9. Looks like you found candy heaven. I just heard Necco wafers is not going to be made anymore. I used to love sugar babies and sugar daddies. Haven't thought of those for decades. A walk down the old candy highway. :) Thanks for the memories. I bet you bought something while you were there. :)

  11. I remember those brands! I lost my taste for sweets, though, possibly from having a father in the commercial sugar business.
