I took this photo at the Phoenix Art Museum especially for my friend Bob of
St. Louis Daily Photo. Bob is a huge fan of musician/composer Phillip Glass and the art museum has had this tapestry depicting that famous man for many years now. The artist is Chuck Close and it's a jacquard tapestry located in the contemporary art gallery. The title of the piece is "Phil".
Bob, next time you are in Phoenix you might want to pay him a visit.
The portrait is stunning.
ReplyDeleteA great musician. I remember quite a few years ago when Philip Glass used a few flickr photos (including one of mine), for a video or something.
ReplyDeleteQuite striking!
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteGreat pic! I am an admirer of Close's work, too. I don't know if I'll be able to get away from my conference to the museum when we're there in September, but Carolyn might.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Close fan so this is great to see, Sharon! I think Bob liked it judging by his comment!
ReplyDeleteA very dramatic portrait and while I don't know the man, I'm guessing this is a spot-on portrayal.
ReplyDeleteHi again, Sharon. I wanted to comment on your comment on Ocala. I agree that many golf tournaments are basically drinking bouts. At Stone Creek, however, a few people may have a beer or two, but most don't drink much, if at all. The reason, I think, is that so many are older and on meds that would preclude drinking! :)
ReplyDeleteThe portrait is very striking.
ReplyDeleteI recognize that as a Chuck Close work. I think I've seen that portrait before, actually, but maybe not a tapestry version.
ReplyDeleteI knew immediately that it is a Chuck Close work. I would love to see it up close (sic). He usually composes these portraits from many small elements. Did you know that Close suffers from a condition that prevents him from recognizing people? That might be part of the reason his portraits are so otherworldly realistic.
