I noticed a serious infestation of creepy, crawly insects in downtown Phoenix recently. These aren't your every day bugs, these invertebrates are huge!
On a corner near the Phoenix Convention Center is a collection of these scary creatures. This scorpion looks like he's drooling for a taste of that little guy he's clutching with his claw.
This centipede is looking just a bit shy.
This funny looking character has taken to wearing high heels!
This crazy bunch of insects is the work of Tom Otterness of Brooklyn New York. Thanks Tom!
Funny looking insects they are.
ReplyDeleteThese bugs look interesting and fun. /X\('-')/X\
ReplyDeleteThe creativity here is astonishing. Love the detail and those shoes...!
ReplyDeleteLuckily these are sculptures...
ReplyDeleteNicely made, with much humor.
These remind me of some creepy creatures I have seen and almost lived with on occasion in the Southwest, but valiant and nasty woman that I am, I quickly dispatched them!
ReplyDeleteHow strange!
ReplyDeleteSuper sculptures, but that first one reminds me of the little scorpions that would make their way into our house. We had to be very careful of dark corners or the inside of cabinets. We found a number of them while living in Scottsdale.
ReplyDeleteI remember them. The silly scorpion is my favorite with the little strange guy on its head. The walking stick reminded me of Louise Bourgeois and her spiders.
ReplyDeleteThey are such fun, Sharon! I rather like that centipede the best for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThere are certainly worse infestations! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow interesting to see these around town. Very different and very creative. I like them especially the centipede.
ReplyDeleteThey're very cool!
ReplyDeleteNormally I would not go near bugs but these are so much fun they invite you to come for a closer look!
ReplyDeleteA bite from one of those guys would hurt!
ReplyDeleteI guessed it was Otterness right away. There is some on his work in Citygarden in downtown STL and the excellent contemporary art museum in Kansas City. He's creepy/weird/ingenious.
ReplyDeleteSo cool and quirky Sharon.. not sure if they're interactive sculptures but the centipede would make an excellent bench ☺
ReplyDeleteI remember Tom Otterness from NYC -- some of his sculptures were in a subway station on Eighth Avenue in Chelsea, as I recall. (Probably still are!)
ReplyDeleteThat scorpion is definitely on the creepy side. I like the other two, though.
