It took me a while to decipher this sculpture at the Scottsdale Civic Center. Against such a busy background it just looks like various pieces of metal.
I finally decided that it's Don Quixote on his horse that is rearing up. He's carrying his shield and long lance. Maybe that's even a broken down windmill in front of him. Anyway, that's what I think is going on here.
Sharon you have an eye for art. That is something I don't have.
ReplyDeleteI totally see him on his horse there - very unusual piece!
ReplyDeleteQuite a bizarre figure and a bizarre sculpture, Sharon.
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right Sharon, he's rusting up nicely there 😃
ReplyDeleteI can see that, now that you have pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteHe does seem to be tilting at windmills!
ReplyDeleteIt looks rather like pieces of windmills thrown together by a big wind! :) Good deciphering...I would have given up on this rather quickly. Funny, though!
ReplyDeleteFrom your 2nd pic, I agree with you! Not sure I would have come up with the answer on my own though, Sharon! ;-)
ReplyDeleteCurious art.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your comment at my blog, if you're going to the cathedral on your trip it would be interesting to see if photographing from the same point of view as the painting is possible.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds correct from what you can see in the photos. But why is the City of Scottsdale representing itself with a doddering and perhaps demented old knight?
ReplyDeleteWorks for me. I keep promising myself that I would reread the novel but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a statue of DQ that is a constant reminder for me, but I still haven't picked up the novel again.
