I found this statue outside of one of the government buildings in downtown Phoenix. It has no plaque to identify the artist or the name of the piece. It has a bit of a pioneer look to it with the man here helping the horse carrying his wife over the rocks.
It's not a huge sculpture, only about 5 to 6 feet tall and sitting on a pedestal or plinth. It's just a guess but, I think it's been sitting here (or somewhere else before here) for a long time. It looks like it's seen its share of the elements.
Very nicely appointed reminder of the pioneering past!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find! It has an aura of strength about it, and I hope that great care is taken to preserve it. I hope that you are surviving well the high temperatures I have seen re. Arizona!
ReplyDeleteI tried to Google that sculpture to find out whose work it is, but I had no luck! Instead I wound up on a reading tangent about Brighty of the Grand Canyon...which is a whole 'nother subject.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite a vivid sculpture... a lot of detail to it.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like this very much. Those early settlers certainly did need a lot of spirit!
ReplyDeleteI like it too. They have really caught the horses hesitation well, Sharon!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sculpture, I like it too.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it drive you nuts when public art doesn't identify the artist? That seems so disrespectful to me.
